The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – Script and Screenplay
There’s
a saying in show business that “good scripts might
end up as bad movies but bad scripts will never be
good movies”. And when the three Indiana Jones films
ended up as great classics rewriting the
action/adventure genre forever, the credit had to go
not merely to the innovative stunt sequences but the
imaginative plots and the credible, witty, and fast
paced screenplays. And as Indiana Jones and the
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is all set to release
on May 22, 2008 the brains behind the story, George
Lucas guarantees the script is a winner.
The
chief reason why the
Crystal Skull film is coming
after 19 years since the last Indiana Jones film is
because the makers couldn’t get hold of a screenplay
that satisfied all their sensibilities equally.
Several renowned scriptwriters like Jeb Stuart, who
penned Die Hard and The Fugitive, M. Night Shyamalan,
and Jeffrey Boam produced drafts that didn’t spark
unanimously with Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford.
Finally, it was the draft worked on by David Koepp
and Jeff Nathanson that was chosen as the final
script for the Indiana Jones Crystal Skull
adventure.
David
Koepp confirmed in an interview that the script for
the Crystal Skull film would not be cluttered with
memorable lines and reminiscent scenes from the
previous Indiana Jones films but would rather be a
fresh, exciting and completely new world keeping
intact the legacy of Indy. Since the much-debated
crystal skull is the central element in the new
Indiana Jones
movies it’s certain that the script
will have exciting supernatural scenes that’ll
mesmerize the audiences.
The
story would likely have Indy on a quest for the
Crystal Skull, attempting to thwart the Russian
enemies from getting to it. The new characters will
definitely add more energy to the script.
Perhaps,
when the Indiana Jones trailer comes out soon, we
will have a more comprehensive idea about the plot.
Till then, wait is all we can do.
