There
are very few movies that have boasted of daring
quests and then gone onto become the personification
of adventure like the
Indiana Jones films have done.
From the boulder escape scene to the fast paced mine
car chase and Jones hurling himself onto the moving
tank, the Indiana Jones films rewrote the concept of
action/adventure movies.
The
technical brilliance of Steven Spielberg’s direction
combined with George Lucas’s panache for weaving the
most imaginative stories raised the Indiana Jones
films to a pedestal achieved by only a handful of
movies. Even in the 1980s, when the Indiana Jones
trailers played, the extravagant production of
George Lucas was evident. And the image of Harrison
Ford as Indiana Jones is impossible to efface from
the hearts of true fans.
Raiders
of the Lost Ark (1981) saw Jones pitted against the
evil Nazis and beating all odds to save the sacred
Ark of Covenant from falling into the wrong hands.
The movie, an adrenaline-pumping feast of action and
ingenious stunts, was the highest grossing movie of
the year.
Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom (1984),
undoubtedly the darkest movie of the lot, showed
Jones in India trailing the powerful Sankara Stones.
Late veteran Indian actor, Amrish Puri, played the
role of the evil priest Mola Ram.
Indiana
Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) had Sean Connery
join the cast as Jones’s father. Despite all the
incredible action, the witty exchanges between Ford
and Connery shone through.
Fans can
only imagine what the makers have in store for them
in the upcoming Indiana Jones film Indiana Jones and
the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull after almost two
decades of waiting. The Indiana Jones Crystal Skull
adventure recently completed shooting and fans can
barely wait to catch the new
Indiana Jones preview
let alone the movie. Stunts and special effects
having reached new heights today, the Crystal Skull
film is bound to be one great adventure.
